Mike Travers, Small Groups and Discipleship Pastor
I grew up in a home with mixed signals about God. Fortunately for me, just before turning 18, I worked in a restaurant where a waitress I worked with told me some good news about life. She shared the Gospel and told me about Jesus. Thankfully, I believed her and she prayed with me that day, and it changed my life. She gave me a Bible with my name printed on it. Inside was her name, presented on June 17, 1976, with a few verses written under the date. The very first verse she chose to write is Luke 18:27 “what is impossible with man is possible with God.” I don’t have many things from my teenage years, but I still have that Bible and God is still doing the impossible in my life.
I came to The Grove in 2018 after 14 years of attending another church where I served in leadership. I have been blessed to serve here as a Lay Minister, attend a two-year School of Ministry with the C&MA and become licensed, lead the Next Steps Classes along with my wife Darla, Treks to Belize, Ecuador, and Spain, and had a life-changing trip to Israel with my Grove family. I dearly love our church, its leaders, and our Pastors.
Met in church and married Darla, the love of my life, in 1980. I have two children: my daughter Randi and my son Cory, and three grandsons, Noah, Wyatt, and Levi. I love my daughter-in-law Megan and son-in-law Brent. I’ve been an electrician for 45 years, owning a small electrical contracting business that my son Cory has taken over, following in my footsteps.
My life verse is 1 Peter 2:21. My prayer is that we would follow in Jesus' steps, be a church that makes knowing God the first priority of life regardless of the cost because we know it costs Jesus dearly, and we would be hungry for the Word of God, love and know Him deeply, and then share what we know of Him with everyone in our sphere of influence.
